AI writing software has more possibilities and use cases than ever before – especially when it comes to creating content automatically. As such, marketing departments and content writers are starting to use these tools to automate production and reach their digital marketing goals.
However, even with the advancement of these tools, it is not a flawless solution.
For this reason, this article addresses the challenges associated with this technology as the second installment of our short series on AI Writing Program for Marketing. This way, you get a clearer understanding of these tools and what to expect when using them. We covered the basics of writing AI in Part 1 of the series.
Challenges: Will AI writing tools replace human content writers?
AI writing is a polarizing topic – particularly among the digital writing and marketing industries. One of the biggest concerns in these societies is the threat that AI writing programs pose to writing-focused professions.
And for good reason!
If companies can cut costs by replacing human writers with artificial intelligence, what is stopping them? Alexander Lewis, freelance writer and founder Lewis’ business writingcomments:
“What I’ve found is that AI writers are good helpers when it comes to selecting articles or coming up with one-off alternatives…but if you’re looking at AI to capture what people like about good writing and scriptwriting — stories, big original ideas, etc. That – these tools fall short.”
Let’s discuss four reasons behind the limitations of AI writing tools:
1. He cannot form his own opinions or insights
While AI writing software accesses billions of web pages to deliver relevant content, it cannot form original opinions, insights, or conclusions.
Robert Zyglinsky, Managing Editor and Researcher at muscle breakHe says, “AI copywriting tools are impressive, but not innovative. It’s a machine. They eat human-written articles and content to create something new. AI tools create great copy, but new doesn’t mean original.”
Therefore, it may be best to steer clear of the AI writing tool if you are working on thought leadership pieces, niche content, tech articles, or if you have experience with a topic. This way, you can create high-quality, original content filled with examples, expert advice, data, and more.

2. Struggles with long-form content
These tools tend to struggle with long, complex and technical content – often resulting in repetitive or factually wrong articles. Pooja Seshadri, Marketing Assistant at NarutoShows:
“There are still limitations to AI writing tools, especially when it comes to creating long content… There are times when an AI writing tool will produce illogical and repetitive content. For this reason, it is important for a writer to edit and improve the natural flow of writing in the content” .
Instead of creating the entire long post automatically, try going paragraph by paragraph, as this gives you more control over the direction of the tool. Or simply use the AI tool to fill in any gaps after writing the article.
3. It is not always updated with current events
It is important to note that not all AI writing software is up to date with current events. For example, Jasper’s AI model completed its data training at the end of 2019. by company“This means that Jasper does not know about current events from January 2020 onwards. Jasper does not know that COVID-19 occurred.”
This does not necessarily mean that these applications are useless for those that cover high-end topics. But, you will have to do extra work to make sure your article is accurate and relevant. This means either including up-to-date information and a summary of the topic when giving program direction. Or, add and edit the final piece of AI – which could lead to a longer production time.

4. Doesn’t understand your target audience
AI writing tools help craft articles that appeal to your target audience in terms of tone of voice. However, this software cannot copy content that targets the customer’s pain points, needs, preferences, and behaviors – because these details are unique to each business.
As a result, AI is not able to truly understand your audience like you are. So, instead of creating content that converts, it is likely to produce content that leads to a high bounce rate.
So, are AI writing software really worth it then?
As you can see, AI writing is constantly advancing. But so far, the technology is not advanced enough to fully replace human writers. Most of these tools were not created with the intention of completely replacing text authors. Instead, use each of these resources to achieve your marketing goals and expand your digital marketing efforts.
