Chemonics is looking for a Communications Manager. Chemonics International Inc. is a US-based international development consulting firm with operations in more than 80 countries, starting the USAID-funded Frontier Health Markets Engage project in Nigeria. The USAID FHM Engage Project is a global collaborative agreement, consisting of a combination of multiple activities, that leverages private health sector contributions to advance voluntary family planning and other health outcomes, including maternal, newborn and child health, malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/ AIDS in low and middle income countries. This will be achieved through strategies and approaches to address key market constraints and barriers to functioning local markets in mixed health systems. Key outcomes expected from FHM Engage include improving the market environment to increase private sector participation in the delivery of health products and services and improving equitable access to and utilization of high-quality consumer-driven health products and services. The FHM Engage Communications Manager for Nigeria activity will be based in Abuja and will work closely with the Party Leader in Nigeria and the Senior Communications Specialist for FHM Engage globally, to support FHM Engage’s outreach and outreach goals. A strong writer with sound judgment and ability to think creatively, solve problems and support strategic communications activities, the Director creates high-quality content for FHM Engage’s external outlets and plays an active role in furthering our global communications goals.

The Communications Manager will assist in gathering information from all participating districts (including capturing stories, conducting interviews, capturing photos, recording videos, audio clips, podcasts, developing graphics or images/infographics) to develop a range of communications materials. The Communications Manager will also support the technical team to maintain deliverable deadlines, produce high-quality drafts of publications and project deliverables for review, and gather inputs to develop quarterly/annual reports, while ensuring all materials adhere to USAID and FHM Engage Branding and Marking. (Including style guide and templates).

Responsibilities:

  • Supports FHM’s outreach and outreach initiatives and planning in Nigeria to increase clarity and understanding of FHM Engage’s goals, approach and successes
  • Identifies, researches and gathers project information and/or analyzes data and from technical and M&E teams, to craft useful, story-driven content on complex technical topics and other engaging content (including but not limited to news stories, blogs, press releases, brochures, one page, and fact sheets). , impact/success stories, feature articles, and abstracts) for target audiences on FHM Engage external outlets, including the project website and social media, or for external publication
  • Captures images, captures audio or video clips, and creates graphics, sharing, and/or infographics as necessary to accompany project and social media posts.
  • Interviews with a variety of stakeholders for the purpose of creating content for an external audience
  • Ensures that all project deliverables and external documents are of high quality, delivered on time, in compliance with FHM Engage branding and labeling requirements, and consistent with the achievement of the component’s overall goals and objectives
  • Gather and consolidate information from technical potential clients to assist the project manager in writing and producing high-quality technical reports highlighting relevant success stories for dissemination to relevant partners, stakeholders and clients.
  • Produces on-demand PowerPoint presentations for management and technical team for specific meetings, events, trainings and workshops
  • Where necessary, provide comprehensive communications support for FHM Engage Nigeria’s participation in other events, conferences and forums, from strategic planning to internal and external communication before, during and after the event
  • Facilitates internal communications, maintains internal program communications files, and provides communications training for individuals working with FHM Engage in Nigeria as necessary.
  • Manages consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the timely and successful implementation of communications plans
  • Responds to requests from the FHM Engagement Leadership Team and/or Senior Communications Specialist

qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in English, Communications, Marketing, International Development, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • At least five (5) years of professional communications and outreach experience, including experience in managing the design and implementation of communications plans or programmes. Business content should include strategic communications, event communications, graphic design, publication development, and/or management of communications campaigns
  • Thorough knowledge of USAID funding, contractual requirements and required reporting; Experience in managing USAID-funded health programs highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of health systems is preferred
  • Proven ability to multitask with extreme attention to detail
  • Excellent management, organization, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work under deadline pressure and manage production schedules
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint is required; Familiarity with web management tools, video editing tools and photo manipulation is desirable; Strong working knowledge of popular social media outlets (eg Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube) is an added advantage.
  • Fluent written and oral English is required. An English writing sample and/or test may be requested from the best candidates
