What’s in the “Conquer Contact Form 7 eBook”?

After getting your feedback and suggestions, here’s what is included in the ebook:

1. Spam Control

Obviously, spam is a big problem anytime we invite site visitors to interact with us. In this case, CF7 gives you several options to combat that annoying spam. I learned a lot about spam prevention just by delving into the plugin while writing this book.

Whenever your customers drop by, you’ll be ready with a compelling form that pulls them toward you. You’ll learn how to

  • Create CAPTCHAs for your new form
  • Install the “Really Simple CAPTCHA” WordPress plugin
  • Customize the colors in your CAPTCHA
  • Change the size of the CAPTCHA input field.
  • Humanize the CAPTCHA with personal instructions

And, you’ll see exactly how it displays on the page.

But wait, you don’t like CAPTCHAs? Try using a quiz instead. The ebook will instruct you on how to

  • Identify the pipe character on your keyboard and insert it into your tag
  • Create a quiz question and insert it into the tag

And there’s one more option. Connecting your form with the WordPress Akismet plugin may be the best choice for you. Here’s how to

  • Install and configure the Akismet plugin on your site.
  • Customize the colors in your CAPTCHA
  • Add code to the form to interface with the Akismet plugin

And, there’s even a screenshot included so you can see what the would-be spammer sees.

2. Checkboxes, Radio Buttons, & Menus

This is the section that gets deep into the how-to, the fun stuff you want to add to your form. You’ll build the tags that will make the default form uniquely yours and take strangers smoothly down the path to becoming great ongoing customers.

Some of the things I’ll cover in this section are

  • How to setup forms with checkboxes to capture unique information from site visitors
  • How radio buttons can be used to create functional forms
  • Dropdown menus as a way to acquire different types of information
3. File Uploading & Attachments

The ability to receive files from your site visitors can help grow your business.

Formatting the emails to send attachments is tricky. These screenshots and instructions walk you through it. And remember, you can always shoot me an email if you hit a bump in the road.

This section gives you some simple, smart strategies to start bringing new customers in the door, including

  • How to create a simple file upload form
  • How to change the file upload size
  • How to accept additional file types
  • How to format the form to receive multiple attachments
  • How to format the emails so the files are sent straight to you
4. Acceptance Checkbox

There are times when you will want your site visitor to agree to your Terms of Service or something else. And, the acceptance checkbox can be used as another wall the spammer has to jump.

  • How to set up a simple “check required” acceptance box
  • How to set up an acceptance box that is already checked, the site visitor needs only to click “Send”
  • How to set up an acceptance box that is not checked, the site visitor enters the check and clicks “Send”

In order to submit, the site visitor must read the instructions. Since some spam is machine generated that spam will be stopped. And let’s face it, spammers are lazy or they’d have a real job, so they won’t do much reading either.

5. Setting Up Mail

Now you’ve got the form set the way you want it. This section explains how the email function works. Included in this section

  • What’s in the default email to you
  • How to set up the second email to go to your site visitor
  • How to customize the email with the checkbox, dropdown, radio button, or file information you need
  • How to include CC: and Bcc: copies
6. Messages

This module has some nifty tweaks and extras that make for very nice “add-ons.” Covered in this module:

  • A frontend view of the default messages your site visitor sees for a successful submission, validation errors, spam, and a failed submission
  • A frontend screenshot showing a successful message on a webpage
  • How to move the position of the message on the webpage
  • Frontend screenshots showing how validation errors appear to your site visitor
  • Backend list and explanation of all messages sent to site visitors, change them here

Here’s how the ebook works:

  • You’ll receive a 50 page instructional manual for the Contact Form 7 WordPress plugin.
  • Screenshots, lots of them. Clear screenshots with captions and arrows to direct you.
  • Written instructions to complement the screenshots, just in case you need them.

Once you click the “Buy Now” button, you will be directed to PayPal.

  • You will go through the buying process.
  • You will be directed to a “Thank You” page with the link.
  • You will be emailed an encrypted link that will be valid for 12 hours.
  • If you need the link emailed to you, just let me know.

The best place for you to ask for my personal advice is by email. Stuck? Let me get you rolling again. Confused? I’ll clarify, get you some more examples, find an additional resource, or direct you to the support forum for an answer.

Testimonials

I picked up the book so that I could quickly implement a form. As you know most plugins come with little if any information so from a programmers point you dig in and try to figure out how it works. When I found your ebook I was naturally inclined to purchase it, read it and then implement my form and ultimately the questionnaire. So, or my case it was more of a get up to speed quickly so I could work with Contact Form 7. As a developer this type of information is invaluable.

==================

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the book and to applaud your initiative. There should be more guides like this! Despite having taught myself the rudiments of HTML and despite being on my third homepage in 15 years, I don’t suppose I’m alone in being repeatedly puzzled by some of the instructions that come with WP plugins and themes. The programmers may well be brilliant at programming, but most of them are lousy teachers.

My impression is that they frequently give instructions of the “Do this, then do this, // then you can do this!” variety, where // marks 15 steps that the programmer thought were so obvious s/he didn’t need to explain them. (These often involve tweaking css or adjusting php files, so perhaps the instructions would be too complex?)

A friend, a little ahead of me on the WordPress learning curve recommended that “if they don’t work after 10 minutes struggle, then just bin them and try the next one.” I wonder how many people realise WP’s download statistics for widgets and plugins reflect this process rather than actual use.

And I wonder how many people who programme WP themes and widgets realise how frustrating their programmes can be to people who are interested in results rather than programming.
