WordPress Plugins

WordPress PluginsIs it just me, or do you find WordPress plugins difficult to install?

Yesterday I was searching for a social media plugin that would work in a widget. I Googled for a plugin and searched the WordPress repository. All in all, I downloaded and installed no less than five, yes five, plugins. None of them worked.

This is what i wanted: 1) the ability to display my social media icon links in my right sidebar and 2) the ability to display the option to subscribe by email to my blog posts. What I ended up with was my social media icons below each post, thanks to the “Sociable” plugin, and nothing in my right sidebar. If you notice, it still has the text from the Flexx template.

Today I spent no less than six hours trying to figure out how to get the Subscribe2 plugin to work in a widget. I have read every set of directions I can find. By the way, what is a “div class” anyhow? I’m not there yet, but I’m not giving up, so near, yet so far.

There seems to be a gap here. We need the WordPress plugins to produce quality websites. The plugin developers need to make money at what they do (they have bills to pay too), so what is the answer? In the past, I always donated. Then I noticed I might only use the plugin a week or less before finding it wasn’t what I needed. Now I’m more cautious about donating, although I must admit, I am neglect in donating to several I use on a regular basis. Another question, do you donate for every website you use it on, or only once, if it’s a decent donation?

Something to think about…
