The Mechanics of Twitter Tools

by Deborah on June 25, 2010

Well, I missed my blogging goal again last week. I was supposed to blog on Friday. :-( Today is Monday, and I am writing the blog post that will go out this coming Friday. There has to be an easier way to extract this information from my brain! But I have to say, when I finish, I do feel very good about what I’ve written.

On to business…

This post was supposed  to tell you the mechanics of setting up and using Twitter Tools. After looking through the plugin options, I think it will require more than one post.

Today I’m going to talk about using Twitter tools to add Twitter hashtags to WordPress posts. My hashtag is #mwpw. Every tweet I post has this hashtag. It’s kind of like an identifier.

When I have a live tweetup, I will use #mwpw and anyone wanting to join the tweetup just types in #mwpw and joins.

For this post, I’ll use these hashtags: #mwpw, #wpplugins, and #social media. Click on the hyperlinks I’ve created and you’ll go over to see what comes up.

When you’re writing your post, you will have to scroll down to find the Twitter Tools #hashtag box. This is what it looks like:

But you won’t see it unless you activate the Twitter Tools plugin first. The plugin has four separate components that have to be activated. It looks like this:

Many people use #hashtags during webinars and other live events. Some companies are brave and display the tweets during the conference. Talk about realtime feedback!

Now that I have my Virtual Event Specialist certification through VA Classroom, I expect to monitor many tweetups and create a lot of #hashtags. Can I do your event? Contact me here: Deborah at MyWPWorks dot com.
