Formatting Emails In Contact Form 7 – Mentabolism Example

by Deborah on May 6, 2010

Setting up emails in Contact Form 7 is often the most difficult and frustrating step for beginners. This blog post   shows you the example coded by John MacMullen for Kim Frazier at Mentabolism.

You may recall that my last post, Contact Form 7 Examples-Mentabolism, discussed the detailed questionnaire John created for Kim. These two screenshots show the code and form John generated.

And you may have wondered: How does that information get to Kim? This is how. Take a look at this screenshot:

After the form is created, the shortcode that is generated for each snippet of information is coded into the email. If coded correctly, the webmaster will receive the information.

Notice the scroll bar to the right in the screenshot. We weren’t able to capture all the code because the questionnaire was VERY long.

This is what the email looks like when Kim receives it.

To send a copy of the questionnaire to the person who completed it, copy and paste the information from the “Message Body” to the “Message Body” in Mail (2). Mail(2) is set up to send a copy of the email to the person submitting the form. This is especially helpful for Kim. When she conducts the phone consultation with the person, both she and the submitter have a copy and can discuss it together.

As someone who knows almost no code, what I do when decoding things like this is to print it out and STUDY it, line by line. Do a comparision, line by line, of the code and the appearance of what was generated. Look at the content within the [] area.

Because one little character can throw everything off, if it doesn’t work the first time, study the error. Go back, try something different.

If you need larger graphics, send me a note through the contact form and I will email them to you. It’s easier than you think, give it a try!
